As we all know, home is where the heart is—whether it’s a studio apartment or a sprawling mansion.  Every person has a different view of what an ideal home looks like. Some people like to have a huge house with a large surrounding lawn, while others prefer to live in a small apartment with all of their friends nearby. Some of us dream about ditching it all, becoming digital nomads and traveling the world. But, for most of us, home is a place where we sleep every night, hang out with our family and enjoy a few creature comforts.  Whatever your taste or lifestyle preferences may be, it’s important to take care of your home and protect it from becoming run-down or damaged.

Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to give your home a little love. You might be tempted to go all out on new decor, but consider small ways to improve the home you already have. Here are a few ways to add some style and romance to your place this Valentine’s Day:

  1. Bring home a pretty present. You can go for the classic red roses, or any simple or elaborate bouquet. Use the flowers to brighten a main room or split them up among tiny vases placed throughout your home. You could also consider a throw pillow or a stylish vase. If your budget can accommodate something a little bigger, consider replacing an appliance or splurging on a dramatic new piece of art.

  1. Makeover your home. Go for a fresh new look. If you’re thinking about repainting, pick a tone that’s a little different from the norm. Give the room a new feel with bold colors or something more muted, depending on your mood and the kind of look you want to achieve. If a paint job seems too overwhelming, just repaint one wall in an accent color — it will be enough to give any room a whole new feel.

  1. Protect what you love. When it comes to protecting what you love, there are some basic maintenance steps you can take to keep your home and belongings safe. Make sure your home insurance policy covers the cost of rebuilding your home and replacing your personal belongings at current prices. Appliances, plumbing systems and heating and air-conditioning units are expensive to repair or replace. A home warranty plan pays for repairs on these things when they break down due to normal wear and tear.

  1. Take good care of it. While you’re thinking of protection, schedule an inspection of your heating and air-conditioning system and look into an annual maintenance contract. Your system will last far longer if it’s inspected and tweaked for optimum performance twice a year.

  2. A deep cleanse isn't just good for the soul — it's good for your home. Just like your wardrobe, your home could use an overhaul every now and then. When was the last time you really cleaned? If it’s been over a year, it’s time for a deep cleanse. It’s not quite a day at the spa, but chances are your home could use a deep cleaning. Hire a professional service to go over the entire place or just focus on one aspect such as the carpet or windows. Need recommendations for service professionals to contact? The most important thing you can do is to love your home. When you love your home, it shows in every little detail. You'll find yourself enjoying every minute of that time when you're strolling down to the kitchen for a morning cup of tea or early evening glass of wine, when you're cooking a gourmet meal on a Sunday night, and even when having guests over for dinner.

Hopefully this blog post inspired you to make your home look more beautiful and welcoming—and, who knows, maybe you’ll even come to love your home as much as we do ours. Happy decorating!
