Spring Break Des Moines 2023 is just around the corner and Des Moines will be blooming all over! If you're still looking for that perfect activity to do with family or friends, here's a quick list of activities happening around Greater Des Moines in the next week.

Whether you want to unwind and embrace the beauty of Des Moines or get in some fun, these activities are sure to make your trip memorable.

  1. Create a challenging obstacle course:

If you have rollerblades, a scooter, or a bike, you can use chalk to create an obstacle course on your driveway and have it ready for when the weather is nice. Do you not possess any wheels? Don't overlook playing hopscotch! Include some variety in it or add a timer to make it more engaging.

  1. Outdoor Trails:

When you live in the Midwest, you learn to appreciate pleasant weather more than you might otherwise. Because of this, as soon as the snow starts to melt, you'll find folks out exploring the more than 800 miles of interconnecting trails that are spread over Greater Des Moines. Get some exercise and enjoy the great spring weather by going for a stroll, a hike, a bike ride, a run, or rollerblading while taking in picturesque landscapes.

  1. Watch Movies in Theatres:

During the week that school is out for spring break, why don't you and the family go watch the newest release at your neighborhood's go-to movie theater? There is nothing quite like going to the theater to watch a latest movie with your family. Those very comfortable chairs, the delectable snacks, and of course, the trailers. Movies that are suitable for the whole family that you can watch over the spring break.

  1. Polk County Conservation Horseback Riding:

Programs are being provided over the spring break period at Jester Park Equestrian Center. Each day, campers will participate in activities, including horseback riding, and learn about horses. Children as young as five and as old as 14 are welcome to participate in the day camps, which are designed with their abilities and interests in mind. You may see the dates and other details on their website. You can also go to Polk County Conservation to learn about parks, trails, and campgrounds in the area to explore.

  1. Make your way to the Blank Park Zoo:

The Spring Safari Camp is a camp for children ages 5 to 9 that lasts for three days. Children will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on learning activities, enjoy time spent outside, meet Ambassador Animals, and travel across the Zoo during this camp. Alternatively, going to the zoo on a day off during spring break is an excellent way to spend some time.

  1.  Experience the NCAA Tournament and Check out Hoops & Hops:

Des Moines will play host to the NCAA men's basketball tournament known as March Madness. Attend Wells Fargo Arena on March 16 and 18 to watch a game from either the first or second round of the playoffs.

Also, check out the Hoops & Hops by heading to Cowles Commons. The ultimate NCAA tournament watch party will take place there. Participate in basketball tournaments, watch the games from warm tents, sample local beers in the Iowa Craft Beer tent, and check out the many food trucks. The attendance cost for Hoops & Hops is zero!

  1. Go to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Des Moines:

Get into the spirit of St. Patrick's Day by wearing your most festive green attire and making your way to the center of the city for the annual parade. It starts at noon near the intersection of 15th Street and Mulberry and goes towards Grand Avenue from there.

  1.  Experience Art at Entirely Kids Day:

Entirely Kids Day will be held at the Des Moines Art Center on Saturday, March 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the theme this year is "Art Then. Now. Forever." Through a variety of hands-on, creative activities, come and learn about both historical and contemporary forms of art. Get your hands dirty and explore the past, the present, and the future of art via a variety of free creative activities geared for people of all ages.

  1. Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden and Conservatory

In spite of the weather, this gorgeous public garden that spans seven acres and is located in the middle of the city is always in full bloom. This cultural institution features a number of indoor and outdoor gardens (including, on occasion, the well-known Corpse Flower), in addition to educational programs and workshops, and even the Trellis Café, which is regarded as one of the most delicious lunch spots in the area.
